THEATRE OPENING KICKS OFF with the KAPITAL KICKS

Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony 6:30 pm — Kapital Kicks Performance 7 pm
Celebrate the Finke Theatre's Grand Opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony sponsored by the Friends of the Finke Theatre and the California Area Chamber of Commerce followed by an evening performance by the Kapital Kicks Orchestra. The popular 18-piece Jefferson City big band, led by local California resident Phil Lewis, will entertain theatre-goers with the sounds of music greats such as Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller during this special performance dedicated to the Finke Theatre's official opening night. You won't want to miss it!

CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL CHORAL CONCERT

Join us for enjoyable afternoon of music featuring the sounds of the award-winning California High School Choir under the direction of Michele Bilyeu. The Finke Theatre is hosting this popular seasonal offering while the new California High School auditorium is under construction. Bring your family and friends and enjoy this much-awaited annual musical performance by California's very own exceptional group of talented high school performers.

HISPANIC HERITAGE DANCE GROUP

Back by popular demand, the Hispanic Heritage Dance Group will take to the stage of the Finke Theatre for an evening of lively Mexican folk dance featuring adults and children from the California area and mid-Missouri. Award-winning instructor and choreographer Edgar Dominguez, who has been teaching ballet folk-lorico for over 15 years, heads up this local dance troupe—a favorite among local festival organizers.

HOLIDAY FESTIVAL

Experience the sights and sounds of the holiday season as the Finke Theatre presents an array of holiday music, story and dance from a spectacular lineup of local and regional talent. Come celebrate the holiday season early with this spirit-filled night of magical performances plus a surprise or two.

Join us for a performance by the award-winning local chapter of the Sweet Adelines, a dynamic group that has graced the Finke Theatre stage on a number of occasions. Sweet Adelines International is a highly respected worldwide organization of women singers committed to advancing the musical art form of barbershop harmony through education and unforgettable, energetic performances.

LLOYD GROTJAN — NATURE PHOTOGRAPHER, MUSICIAN & MULTIMEDIA ARTIST

California resident and popular area artist Lloyd Grotjan's acclaimed multimedia program is a feast of sound, sight, color, and feeling. Through a masterful blending of the arts, Grotjan has integrated the best of his 25 years of nature photography and eloquent original music into a multimedia program that includes performances on various acoustic instruments while he is immersed in dissolving color images. Grotjan's nature photography has been featured in Outdoor Life, The Smithsonian, and the Conservationist and his unique and inspirational music professionally recorded.

"ON BROADWAY WITH STEVE REDMON"

Missouri-based performer Steve Redmon stars in this dynamic show featuring the beloved music of Broadway shows—past and present. Spend and enchanted evening with this talented singer and performer as he brings a taste of Broadway to the Ozarks in this unforgettable one-evening-only performance.

A NIGHT WITH "BESS"

Get to know Bess Truman, one of America's most private First Ladies, as impersonator Marlene Katz of Leawood, Kansas, joins us for an unforgettable evening (on President Harry Truman's birthday). Katz, as Bess, tells of her life's experiences from Independence, Missouri, to the White House. For the past 10 years, Katz has delighted audiences wtih her compelling portraits of women in history to educate the public about famous women, including Mother Theresa, Eleanor Roosevelt and Mary Todd Lincoln. Katz's performances have been seen throughout the Midwest at museums, libraries, historical societies, corporate events, and academic institutions. All of her shows are a must-see.

CALIFORNIA COMMUNITY ENSEMBLE
Saturday, June 12, 2010 7pm
Join this talented group of local performers in the first concert of their summer series as they showcase music ranging from the big band era to Broadway show tunes to your patriotic favorites. Under the direction of Phil Lewis, the California Community Ensemble performs throughout the year in venues around mid-Missouri to raise money for local school band and music programs. The Friends of the Finke Theatre is proud to welcome the California Community Ensemble to its new home— the Finke Theatre!
